Prayagraj: In view of forthcoming urban local body polls, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has started scrutinising the names of candidates willing to contest polls on the post of corporators and mayor. However, the local BSP leaders are tight-lipped over the Shaista Parveen episode and asserted that the final decision would be taken by the state party leadership.
All the names scrutinised would be forwarded to senior party leaders in the state capital for approval. The party has received 16 applications for the post of mayor so far.
Insiders claimed that after being named in the killing of Umesh Pal and two of his police gunners, there are very thin chances of Shaista, wife of jailed mafioso-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, being fielded for the ULB polls.
