VARANASI: A 20-year-old girl, who worked as a domestic help at the house of a powerloom owner, Ram Kamal Sonkar, in Gopalbagh colony under Jaitpura police station, was allegedly killed by a labourer of the same unit, Rizwan, on Saturday. Rizwan later dumped her body in the sewer tank of the house from where it was recovered by the police.
The incident came to light when Rizwan reached Jaitpura police station and confessed to his crime. Later, police reached the house to recover the body.
Deputy commissioner of police (Kashi zone) RS Gautam said the accused was arrested and the body of the girl identified as Sonam was sent for postmortem. “Based on the complaint of the girl’s father, an FIR under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of IPC and SC/ST Act has been registered in this connection. During preliminary investigation, it came to light that the girl and accused knew each other for a long time. On Saturday morning, they had a fight over some issue, following which Rizwan strangulated her to death with her stole (Dupatta),” he added.
Sources said Sonkar runs a powerloom weaving unit at his residence, where Rizwan, a native of Sheshman Bazar under Jaitpura police station, worked as a labourer. Sonam, who dwelt with her parents and brothers in Digiya area, worked as a domestic help along with her mother at Sonkar’s house.
Sonam’s mother said on Saturday morning her daughter reached Sonkar’s home before her. She had a quarrel with Rizwan, who informed the cops that he strangled her to death and later dumped her body in the sewage chamber of Sonkar’s house.
Later, Jaitpura cops and Gautam ACP Chetganj Shruti Srivastava reached the spot. As the cops could not take out the body, they engaged labourers to recover it from the sewage tank with the help of chisel and hammers.
