Prayagraj: Officials of forest department in Pratapgarh are planning to shift Sarus crane to Kanpur zoo after finding that bird had injuries in its left wingspan. Officials said Sarus is currently unable to live in its natural habitat.
Ajay Krantikari, member of district environment committee and volunteer of wildlife crime control bureau told TOI, “ The Sarus crane, who was found injured after being hit by a vehicle near Fatanpur forest area about a week back, was examined and treated by the joint team of veterinary doctors and forest department officials. Despite improvement in its condition, forest department officials noticed that sarus crane was not able to live its life in its natural habitat and further decided to shift it to Kanpur zoo.
Krantikari further added, “ Officials of forest department are making arrangements to shift Sarus crane to Kanpur zoo after rescuing it. Sarus crane was not able to fly naturally due to injuries in its wingspan and thus reflecting on its impact on Sarus’s nutrition and health”. Once Sarus is shifted to Kanpur zoo, additional care would be catered to the bird.
