VARANASI: The Mirzapur police has arrested Arif, Imroj Khan and Sahabuddin of Sultanpur district on the charges of gang rape of a married woman, her unlawful conversion and threatening and blackmailing her husband with her obscene video clips.
The woman had met Arif, who claimed to be Abhay Mishra, when she had visited her parent’s place in April. On the pretext of arranging a job for her, Arif took the woman to Ambala, where she was allegedly gang raped by him and his friends and was also forced to embrace Islam.
Producing the arrested persons before reporters on Tuesday, SP Mirzapur Santosh Kumar Mishra said that an FIR has been filed on May 17 on the complaint of the woman’s husband under section 366 (inducing woman to compel her marriage), 420 (cheating), 342 (wrongfully confining any person), 376D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention) of IPC, 3/5(1) of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance and 66E IT Act.
“Five police teams have been constituted to arrest the accused persons. Raids have been carried out in several states, including Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi,” he said, adding, “Following hectic efforts, we have managed to nab the main accused Arif and his friends Imroj Khan and Sahabuddin for involvement in the crime.”
Police have also recovered a mobile phone and SIM card, which were used to make obscene video clips and photography, and the burqa which was given to the woman to wear.
SP Mirzapur said that it has come to light that on April 4 the woman’s husband had received a call on his phone. The caller, posing as Abhay Mishra, had informed him that his wife had gone to Ambala with him in search of a job. After a few days, the woman called her husband and informed him that ‘Abhay’ had taken her to Ambala as a part of a conspiracy.
She also told him that Abhay’s real name was Arif Khan and that she had been made hostage in a house where Arif and his companions had gang raped her. She was also forced to wear a ‘burqa’ and recite the ‘kalma’. She was also taken to Sultanpur to meet Arif’s family members.
Acting on the advice of her husband, the woman somehow managed to dodge Arif and escape from his captivity and reached her home in Mirzapur. But Arif started threatening her husband to send her back to Ambala and blackmailed the couple by sending obscene video clips that he had made when the woman was kept hostage.
SP Mirzapur said that the video clips and photos not only contained obscene activities, but they also showed the inhuman treatment given to the woman. “The harassment by Arif, his family members and companion made it clear that the forceful conversion was done in an organised way with the involvement of all. The process to book all the accused under Gangster Act would be started soon,” he added.
