Prayagraj: Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed his life for peace and unity of the nation, said deputy leader opposition in Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari on the former’s 32nd martyrdom day, also observed as Anti-Terrorism Day, by the district and city Congress committees here on Sunday.
The Congressmen paid homage to their beloved leader while garlanding a portrait of Rajiv Gandhi at Anand Bhawan. Addressing the Shradhanjali Sabha, Tiwari said, “Former PM Rajiv Gandhi had implemented anti-defection law, reduced the voting age to from 21 to 18 years and had taken several steps for women empowerment and empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions,” added Tiwari.On the occasion, ex-MLAs Anurag Narain Singh and Vijay Prakash said Rajiv Gandhi had motivated the country to go ahead for technological advancement, including the use of computers.
Congress city president Pradeep Anshuman presided over the meeting while UPCC former spokesperson Kishore Varshney conducted the proceedings. District congress committee presidents Suresh Yadav and Arun Tiwari, were present among others.
