Varanasi: Painkillers, tranquilizers and other medicines worth Rs 1 crore marked for sale to drug addicts were seized in Ghazipur district during a raid by the Central Narcotics Bureau sleuths on Wednesday.
The agency said that on a tipoff, commissioner Dinesh Baudh alerted UP deputy commissioner of CBN Shashank Kumar Yadav, after which Lucknow unit’s SI K K Srivastava camped in Ghazipur for investigation. Later, a team of agency from Lucknow, led by superintendent S K Singh, reached Ghazipur.
The same team raided Pankaj Yadav alias Tinku’s den in Rampur Milki village under Suhwal police station on Wednesday evening. CBN said a huge stock of Bupronorphine and Tramadol injection vials, Nitrazepam and Alprazolam tablets were found in the raid.
CBN arrested Tinku and seized the medicines, said the officials adding, value of seized medicines is over Rs 1 crore. Officials said during initial investigation, involvement of government employees came to light. Further investigation to know the supplier of these drugs and members of the syndicate peddling these medicines is continuing, they added.
