Kashi: Kashi To Get Facelift Ahead Of G-20 Events | Varanasi News – Times of India



VARANASI: Kashi is all set get prepared to host the G-20 events slated to be held in the city between April and August. The city will be beutifully decorated as it was 16 months ago for the opening of Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
“The beautification works being done for the proposed G-20 events, will become a permanent feature of the city”, said district magistrate S Rajalingam while talking to TOI on Thursday.
“Roads are being constructed by ending gap with footpaths, buildings are being painted in uniform colours, wall painting, landscaping, beautification of crossings and façade lighting at landmark, monumental buildings and ghats along river Ganga are the major works being done inside the city”, he said adding, the road leading to the city from LBSI airport is also being beautified by ensuring decorative lights on the palm trees on dividers while artificial and ornamental trees and structures are also being placed at many points.
All these works would remain permanent feature in the city in future, he said adding, lighting on government and private buildings are also being ensured by seeking cooperation of local people and building owners. G-20 logos are also being placed at many points in the city, he said.
Similar beautification exercises were carried out 16 months ago on the occasion of opening of Kashi Vishwanath Dham by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13, 2021. However, most of those decoration and beautifications were temporary and lights were removed. Façade lights at many points also lost their sheen in past months.
As per the tentative itinerary of G-20 events received by the district officials, an agriculture working group meeting is likely to take place here from April 17 to 19 while youth 20 summit engagement group level meeting may take place from June 13 to 15, development working group meeting on August 16 and 17, ministerial level meeting on August 18 ad 19 and sustainable finance working group meeting is likely to be hosted on August 28 and 29.
To review the progressof the preparations, the DM had convened a meeting on Wednesday evening. Deadline for completion of works assigned to the departments including PWD, Varanasi Development Authority, Varanasi Municipal Corporation, tourism, culture and others was fixed focussing on the of sites of the proposed events and the routes for the movement of delegates.
The culture department was asked to finalise list of artistes and venues for cultural performances. Tourism department was directed to train guides and liaison officers. Rajalingam also directed to complete arrangements at all tourist sites and facilities including sound and light show, cruise and others by April 10.
