Prayagraj: Two BTech second year students of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) were feared drowned in Ganga under the limits of Shivkuti police station here on Thursday, police said.
Station officer (Shivkuti) Manish Tripathi told TOI that “A group of five MNNIT students had gone to enjoy swimming at Koteshwar mandir ghat on Thursday. Two of them, Dipendra Singh (23) and Vikas Maurya (23), residents of Alwar (Rajasthan) and Mau (UP) respectively entered into deep water and started drowning.”
Before three other students could raise an alarm, both of them were feared drowned. Upon being alerted, a team of Shivkuti police along with swimmers and personnel of SDRF rushed to the spot and were making efforts to fish out the bodies.
Both the students were staying in different hostels of MNNIT and their families have been informed, he said.
