PRAYAGRAJ: At least nine people were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a tempo carrying them was hit by a speeding milk truck container in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Tuesday.
The deceased include two children and two women.
The incident took place near Chilli turn under Jahanabad police station area.
Police said seven passengers died on the spot while two succumbed to injuries during treatment. Two other critically injured passengers were admitted to the district hospital in Fatehpur for treatment.
Police have seized the errant milk truck container. However, the accused driver managed to escape from the spot.
Upon being alerted, senior police officers along with police forces rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The identities of the deceased were yet to be ascertained.
Inspector general of police (Prayagraj range) Chandra Prakash told TOI that the incident took place when a tempo carrying as many as 11 passengers was on its way to Jahanabad from Ghatampur collided with a speeding milk truck container heading towards Ghatampur from Fatehpur.
