Prayagraj: Samajwadi Party leaders on Saturday claimed that it is not SP’s defeat on mayoral post election but victory of conspiracy by the election commission (Mayor pad par samajwadi party ki har nahin, balki chunav aayog ke shazish ki jeet hai).
Senior SP leader and party spokesman Daan Bahadur Madhur said, “A large number of Samajwadi party supporters’ names were not only deleted from the nagar nigam electoral list but the eligible voters were not briefed about their polling booths also”. He claimed that BLOs had not taken any interest to distribute voters slips and majority of SP supporters could not cast their votes.
“It was a planned conspiracy of election officials at the behest of election commission when party supporters were not able to cast their votes”, Madhur said adding, “Despite submitting repeated complaints, no action was initiated to rectify the errant voters list ’ he added.
Meanwhile, senior party leadership denied that the killing of mafia turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his younger brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf had any impact on voting trend.
A senior party functionary preferring anonymity told TOI, “Voting trend had nothing to do with killing of gangster brothers. SP managed to save its stronghold in Muslim dominated pockets. The winning of SP candidate from Chakia was a live example.”TNN
