Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a rise of 2.5-3 times in sale of liquor and beer across the state over the past two years, reveals data of excise department’s state headquarters in Prayagraj. Presently, liquor and beer worth Rs 300 crore is being sold daily in the state. Two years ago, the figure was Rs 100 crore per day. Officials said there is not a single district in the state where liquor and beer worth less than Rs 2.5-3 crore is being sold on a daily basis.
There are many districts where Rs 12 to 15 crore are spent on liquor and beer in a day. According to statistics, in Prayagraj liquor and beer worth Rs 4.5 crore are sold in a day. Major districts of the state in terms of heavy sale, include Noida and Ghaziabad (Rs 13 to 14 crore daily) Agra (Rs 12 to 13 crore), Meerut (around Rs 10 crore), Lucknow (Rs 10-12 crore), Kanpur (Rs 8-10 crore), Varanasi (Rs 6-8 crore).
