VARANASI: Under the statewide operation of UP Anti-Terror Squad (UPATS), its Varanasi field unit on Sunday arrested two members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) Parvej Ahmed and Rayis Ahmed from Adampur and Jaitpura areas.
According to UPATS, both of them were produced before the remand magistrate and later sent to jail.
Sources said after the arrest of PFI module Abdulla Saud Ansari of Lohta in 2022 following a case registered under Section 153a (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion), 153b of IPC and relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Parvej and Rayis were made co-accused in the case and both were absconding since then.
Both of them were in contact with PFI leaders in Assam and different states and used to take part in its activities. They got training to radicalise youths of a community and spread the ideology of PFI to expand its base in Delhi, Kerala, UP and other places. To evade arrest, both of them were changing locations frequently for the past several months.
Two more cases had also been registered against them with Chetganj and Adampur police in 2019 and 2022 and they had also been sent to jail in the past.
