NOIDA: Ahead of the municipal elections on May 11, the GB Nagar administration conducted a training programme for polling officers on Saturday in the auditorium of Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. The polling team received training on handling EVMs and conducting elections.
The Ghaziabad administration is also undertaking similar preparations and has issued a letter seeking a paid holiday grant for employees on poll day.
At the GBU programme, presiding and polling officers received information about the EVMs. Manish Kumar Verma, GB Nagar district magistrate, said, “On the directions of the Uttar Pradesh state election commission, we conducted a training programme to ensure a fair and transparent urban body election this year. Nodal officer for personnel training, Shailendra Bhatia, conducted the programme.”
The officers received information that the EVMs operate on a 7.5-volt battery and come with two units, control and ballot, which will reach the polling stations in separate portable cases. Once recorded, the polling information would remain in their memory, even after removing the battery. Before voting starts at the polling stations, the EVMs will be demonstrated before the polling agents so they can ensure that they do not have any votes recorded in them and are in perfect working condition. Also, they should enter the last four digits of EPIC or identity documents produced by the elector in the remarks column in the voter register.
