PRAYAGRAJ: At a time when Prayagraj recorded the poorest voting percentage among the 37 districts of the state which went for poll in the first phase of urban local body elections on Thursday, the voters of the poshest areas of the city did not even touch the overall voting percentage for municipal election.
The overall voting percentage for the municipal corporation here at Prayagraj was 31.45% while the same for Nagar Panchayat was 58.08%. Five most posh localities of the city performed poorly in civic polls.
In terms of Civil Lines, the polling booths in schools including Prayag Mahila Vidyapeeth, Anglo Bengali Inter College (ABIC), GHS, there was not a single booth where more than 30% voting was observed. The lowest turnout of 10% was recorded in room number six of ABIC. The highest polling of 28% was also recorded in room number six west of ABIC. The percentage of voting in all the remaining booths remained less than this.
Likewise, at Ashok Nagar, while some of the booths of this ward reached 30% and more, the lowest voter turnout of 11% was recorded at the booth of Swami Vivekananda Junior High School. The situation was the same at Alanganj locality. There were 15 booths here and the poll percentage varied from 30% to 12%.
At Colonelganj area, the lowest turnout of nine% was recorded in room number two of JT Golden Jubilee while the highest turnout of 34% took place at St. Anthony. At Tagore Town area, the maximum voting percentage was 33% while the lowest turnout was 17%.
