Varanasi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has named renowned human geneticist and coordinator of the Centre for Genetic Disorders, BHU, prof Parimal Das as member of PCPNDT Act. The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994, aims to prevent the misuse of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques for sex determination leading to female foeticide and to regulate such techniques to prevent genetic disorders. Das is an expert in the field of medical genetics and his appointment is expected to enhance the Act’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives. TNN
