Varanasi: District magistrate of Ghazipur, Aryaka Akhauri, on Friday ordered suspension of three arms licences of jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s elder brother Afzal Ansari, who lost his parliamentary membership after being awarded four-year imprisonment in a Gangster Act case on April 29, reports Rajeev Dikshit. Afzal is currently lodged in Ghazipur jail.
Talking to TOI on Saturday, SP Ghazipur Ombir Singh said that a team of policemen led by senior officials had gone to the residence of Afzal Ansari on Friday evening for the recovery of the weapons. “However, his family members could not tell about the place where the arms were kept,” said Singh, adding, “The process to interrogate Afzal in jail by the investigation officer has been started by seeking court permission to ensure that arms are recovered.”
After getting DM’s order, a team of policemen led by ASP (rural) Balwant had reached the place of Afzal on Friday. Apart from Afzal’s wife Farhat Ansari, cops also met former MLA Sibgatullah Ansari, his son and Samajwadi Party MLA from Mohammadabad Sohaib Ansari alias Mannu. But they could not provide the whereabouts of the three arms of Afzal.
