RUDRAPUR: In one of the largest such seizures in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand, the district police found Rs 22 lakh in fake notes and counterfeiting equipment.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) sleuths arrested two men during the operation and recovered high-quality ink, a printer, e-stamp paper, and a paper-cutter machine.
The SOG team conducted the raid in the Kashipur area on Thursday night, following a tip-off from an informant.
The suspects were apprehended while they were riding a motorcycle near Purana Dhela Bridge in Kashipur.
They were identified as Rajendra Singh alias Raju, 39, and Buta Singh, 30, both residents of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
The duo was caught with 4,417 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denominations, with a total face value of over Rs 22 lakh, as well as 18 one-sided fake Rs 500 notes.
They led cops to a Janseva Kendra in Bhogpur village area of Bijnor, where counterfeiting equipment, including a Lenovo monitor, an HP printer, a mini CPU, a data cable, and a paper cutter were found.
The team also recovered 100 sheets of the paper rim, two counterfeit notes printed on one side, and 12 notes printed on one side without a serial number.
They confessed to printing fake notes using equipment and admitted to selling the fake notes in several districts, including Bijnor and Rampur.
US Nagar SSP Manjunath TC announced a reward of Rs 2,500 for the police team that nabbed the accused.
The men were booked under sections 34 (common intention), 489A (counterfeiting currency notes), 489B (selling counterfeit notes) and 489D( Making or possessing instruments or materials for forging or counterfeiting currency notes or bank notes) of the IPC.
