Now, No Male Staffers In Kgbvs Across State | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Contracts of all male staff working in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools (KGBVs), functioning across all the 75 districts of the state will not be renewed.
Director general (school education) Samgrah Siksha Abhiyan, Vijay Kiran Anand had issued a letter on April 25 in this regard to all the district magistrates, asking them not to renew service contracts of teaching as well as non-teaching male personnel working in these schools in their districts. Officials maintain that this step has been taken for the safety of female students studying in these residential schools that offer residential education from classes 6 to 8.
The letter cites an earlier government order issued by UP’s additional chief secretary (basic education) Deepak Kumar on April 20, 2023 and an instruction received from the joint secretary, school education and literacy department of Union ministry of education as the basis for these orders while asking for compliance.
The officials have been instructed not to renew the contracts of male teachers and workers of KGBVs and recruit eligible women on the posts left vacant following the exit of the male employees.
In a letter dated October 12, 2022, the joint secretary of the department of school education and literacy in the ministry of education had given instructions to appoint only women personnel on all posts in Kasturba Gandhi schools. In this sequence, instructions have been given not to renew the contracts of the male staff in the 2023-24 academic session and to appoint only women to the vacant posts.
In Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas, all the personnel — from warden to the watchman — are hired on contract basis. Except Kanpur Nagar and Auraiya districts, one Kasturba school is running in each development block of all the districts of the state.
As per the new framework for the implementation of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in accordance with the provisions of the new National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, section 8.5.2.5 stresses on the importance of safety and security of girls availing free boarding facilities in KGBVs and clearly defines that warden/in-charge teacher/resident teacher and all other staff/workers working in or looking after the girls’ hostel should be only be females.
“Following the order, renewal of contracts of male teachers and workers at KGBVs would not be done at Prayagraj,” said basic shiksha adhikari (BSA)Prayagraj, Praveen Kumar Tiwari. However, the move is expected to adversely affect over 1,000 men hired on contract as teachers and non-teaching staff of KGBVs functioning across the state, including 32 men out of the total staff of 209 working in 20 KGBVs of Prayagraj alone. Majority of men in these schools across the state are working as watchmen, accountant, etc.
