VARANASI: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that of 2.70 lakh TB patients, who have been adopted by the government, 70% are now leading a healthy life.
Speaking at an international seminar ‘One World TB Summit’ to mark World TB Day, the CM said that the state government has, so far, paid Rs 422 crore through direct beneficiary transfer for nutrition of TB patients in the state.
“We are committed to keeping the 25 crore population of UP healthy. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged strong in every field. On the occasion of World TB Day, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the PM and Union health minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya for organizing this programme in Varanasi, which is the place of the PM’s Karma Sadhana, from where he is representing the country in Parliament,” the CM said.
Saying that India is moving towards becoming TB-free by 2025, the CM said that UP, as India’s most populous state, once had 21% of the country’s TB patients. In the last five years, Rs 422 crore has been provided to 16.90 lakh TB patients through DBT as nutritional assistance, he added. “We have been able to cure 70% of these TB patients.
Special attention is being given to the TB investigation at PM Ayushman Wellness Centres. Success has been achieved in controlling communicable diseases, Japanese and acute encephalitis syndrome by up to 96% percent in UP,” the CM said.
The CM said that as a result of the government’s initiatives, the health sector in UP had made massive strides. As a result, he said, maternal mortality rate had reduced from 285 per lakh to 167 per lakh and infant mortality rate which was previously 57 per thousand, has now reduced to 38 per thousand.
