62 UP students stranded in violence-hit Manipur return home | Lucknow News – Times of India



LUCKNOW: The state relief commissioner Prabhu N Singh confirmed to TOI on Tuesday that 62 students had returned from Manipur and were headed home, providing great relief to worried parents and relatives of Uttar Pradesh students who were stranded in the violence-hit state.
A total of 11 more students will leave Manipur to head back home. Local authorities in Manipur are helping students to reach the airport to board the flight.
The state government had received the requests for evacuating 136 students of five universities and colleges including 52 students of IIIT, Manipur, 47 from NIT Imphal, 30 from National Sports University, three from Central Agriculture University Imphal and two from Government Medical University Manipur.
“We had booked 62 air tickets for students to return from Manipur via direct and multiple connecting flights on Tuesday. There are teams who will further assist students to reach their native districts, the remaining students will be brought on Wednesday and Thursday subsequently,” said relief commissioner Prabhu N Singh.
The state has issued a round-the-clock toll-free number 1070 and WhatsApp 9454441081 for emergency assistance such as a person who is stuck in Manipur but can’t pay airfare and wishes to return home.
According to the state relief commissioner’s office on Tuesday 12 students hailing from Lucknow, six from Prayagraj, five each from Gautam Buddha Nagar and Kanpur Nagar, three each from Mathura and Ghazipur, two each from Ghaziabad, Farrukhabad, Mau and Basti, while one each of Hardoi, Azamgarh, Kannauj, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj Jaunpur, Aligarh, Kasganj. Hamirpur, Jalaun, Agra, Ayodhya, Badaun, Firozabad, Kushinagar, Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Etah districts were brought back.
