54 booked for holding buffalo cart race in UP’s Muzaffarnagar | Agra News – Times of India

AGRA: Police registered a case against four named and 50 unknown persons for organising a buffalo cart race without permission on Khatauli-Mirapur road in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday morning.
The action came two days after a video of the race went viral on social media in which a youth can be purportedly seen mounted on a cart while others are driving rashly and blocking the road. Later, SP Satyanarayan Parjapat took cognisance of the clip and ordered an investigation.
Ravishankar Mishra, deputy superintendent of police, said, “Among the accused who have been booked under under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by the public servant), 13 of the Gambling Act (whoever is found gaming any public street) and 3/4 of the Animal Cruelty Act, four people have been identified as Rajneesh Dhami, 25, Praveen, 26, Shubham Foji, 23, and Ashwani, 24. So far, only Rajneesh and Praveen have been arrested and sent to jail. Efforts are on to nab the others.”
A local villager who did not want to disclose his name said, “These hooligans have put others’ lives at risk and should be punished. This is not the first time that they had organised such a race. It has happened in the past as well.”
