Kanpur: A three-year-old girl, who sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by a 10-year-old boy a few days ago in the city and was battling for life in a hospital, died during treatment on Saturday.
According to reports, the girl was playing outside her house on May 22 afternoon when a minor boy of a nearby locality reached there on a bicycle and took her along with him to an empty plot near a cemetery in the area. The boy thereafter allegedly did obscene acts with the girl.
According to the police, a female passerby saw them and reprimanded the boy. After the woman left, the boy threw the girl on the ground and ran away after assaulting her brutally. As a result, the girl had suffered serious injuries in her stomach and head. She was found lying with her face down in a pit the same evening by her family members. Subsequently, they informed the local police and admitted the girl to a hospital. The doctors operated on the girl on Friday. However, she dies on Saturday afternoon. Chakeri police, on being informed, reached the hospital and sent the body for postmortem.
The head of the department of paediatrics of the hospital said that the girl had an infection in her stomach after her intestine ruptured and due to which she succumbed. “The injury marks on the head and other parts of her body were not very serious. However, the exact cause of her death will become more clear in the postmortem report,” he said.
“We detained the boy on Friday, presented him to the Juvenile Justice Board and sent him to the Child Observation Home. Further action will be based on the autopsy report and other necessary findings,” said ACP Chakeri, Amarnath.
