3-day Fest Raises Awareness On Healthy Lifestyle | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: A team of students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) along with the Student Counselling Services’ Wellness Council hosted a three-day fest ‘Satvikoham’ from April 8 to 10, marking the UN’s declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets.
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets 2023 in its 75th session with an aim to raise awareness on the importance of millets as a sustainable and healthy food option and encourage people to include them in their diet.
The event featured a range of competitions and activities to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Besides, a coding competition, Sattvik Bytes, was held as a pre-event to demonstrate the application of innovation and technology in solving real-life problems.
The festival kicked off with Prerna-path 5K Run, which aimed at raising awareness on the importance of physical fitness in a healthy lifestyle. The inaugural day ended with Sattvik Bhoj, where around 500 students gathered to eat and celebrate the International Year of Millets 2023. The grand feast featured the diverse culinary traditions of millets. The second day of the festival began with the Yogadhyathma yoga session, in which the participants were taught different yoga poses and their benefits. A poster-making competition ‘Srajanotsav’ was also conducted, in which students made creative artworks on topics like vegetarianism, food wastage and animal rights.
Winners of the various competitions were felicitated by IIT-BHU director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain, who emphasised on the importance of yoga and nutritious values of millets and encouraged the students to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“What we eat affects our thoughts. Living a healthy life is a luxury affordable by only those whose eating habits are sound. With an aim to spread the message that a healthy and Sattvik lifestyle can lead to the well-being of students,” he said.
